COMPARATIVES AND SUPERLATIVES

COMPARATIVES:

We use comparatives to compare people, things, places.... .

Sth/so + ADJETIVE+ER + THAN + sth/so

sth = something
so = someone

Ex: Cats are smaller than elephants.
      Pens are longer than rubers.

When the adjetive is very long (beautiful, important, dangerous...) we use MORE before the adjetive.

Sth/so + MOREADJETIVE + THAN + sth/so

Ex: Sky is more beautiful than TV.

There are 2 adjetives (good and bad) that don´t follow those rules:

  • GOOD = BETTER THAN
  • BAD = WORSE THAN
Examples with better:
- Aquaman is better than spiderman.
- Pizza tastes better than hamburger.

Examples with worse:
- Hamburger is worse than fish.
- Rainy days are worse than sunny days.

SUPERLATIVE

We use superlatives to say that there is nothing compare to "that thing, person, animal or place".

Sth/so + THE + ADJETIVE + EST

Ex:  The blue whale is the biggest animal in the world.
My cousin is the tallest in my family.

When the adjetive is very long (beautiful, important, dangerous...) we use MOST before the adjetive.

Sth/so + THE MOST + ADJETIVE

Ex: The ocean is the most beautiful thing of nature.
Pizza is the most delicious food.

With the adjetives good and bad :
GOOD = THE BEST
BAD = THE WORST

Example with good:
- Coco is the best Disney movie.
- Summer is the best season.

Example with bad:
- That is the worst song.
