  1. How long can the Greenland shark live?

  1. What bird can fly backward?

And now....why don´t you look for any curiosity about any animal (maybe your favourite animal)

Animals are classified into : VERTEBRATES and INVERTEBRATES.

VERTEBRATES: Animals that have bones.

Types of vertebrates:
a. Mammals
b. Fish
c. Birds
d. Reptiles
e. Amphibians

a. Mammals:

Characteristics:
  • They breathe through lungs
  • They are born from mother´s womb. VIVIPAROUS.
  • They have hair or fur.
  • They drink their mother´s milk.
  • They are warm-blooded.

QUESTION....What is the biggest and the smallest mammal?? and the fastest and slowest one??

b.Fish:
Characteristics:

  • They breathe through gills.
  • Their body is covered with scales.
  • They live under the water.
  • They are cold-blooded.
  • They are born from eggs. OVIPAROUS
  • They have fins to swim.

c. Birds
  • They are born from eggs. OVIPAROUS.
  • They breathe through lungs.
  • Their body is covered with feathers.
  • They have 2 wings.
  • They are warm-blooded.

QUESTION...Can all the birds fly??...Tell me some examples...
d. Reptiles

-They have dry scaly skin.
-They are cold-blooded.
-They lay eggs. OVIPAROUS.
-They breathe through lungs.
-They have 4 legs or no legs.

e. Amphibians

- They have four legs or no legs
- They breathe through gills when they are babies, then with lungs

- They can live on land or in water
- They are cold blooded
- They lay many eggs. OVIPAROUS
- They have smooth skin.

INVERTEBRATES: Invertebrates are animals

that do not have a skeleton.

Types of Invertebrates:
a. Arthropods: INSECTS, ARACHNIDS, CRUSTACEANS and MIRYAPODA
b. Molluscs
c. worms and leeches
d. Echinoderms
e. Cnidaria
f. Sponches

There are more than 2 million type of invertebrates. Some of them live in the land and some others live under the water. Like vertebrates they can be carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.

a. Anthropods:

Insects: Characteristics

- Their body is divided in three main parts.
-   They have two antennae on their head.
-    Six legs on the thorax
-    Most of them have four wings on the thorax.
-    When they hatch they are called larvae

 Parts:

QUESTION...

Arachnids: Characteristics:
  • They don´t have antennae.
  • They have 8 legs.
  • Their bodies are divided into 2 sections: Cephalothorax and abdomen.

Parts:

Types:

·        Black widow spider
·        Camel spider
·        Dust mite
·        Tick
·        Tarantula
·        Scorpion

Crustaceans: Characteristics:
  • There are  as  plentiful in the oceans as insects are on the land (they are like the insects of the ocean).
  • They have jointed bodies and limbs, and a hard outer shell.

Types:
·        Crawfish
·        Krill
·        Hermit Crab
·        Horseshoe crab
·        Lobster
·        Shrimp

Myriapoda: Characteristics:

- They have a pair of antennae.
- They have two eyes.
- The mouth parts are on the underside of the head.
- They have two mandibles in the mouth.

TYPES:

 - Centipede

  - Millipede

  -Symphyla

  -Pauropoda.

b. Mollusks: Characteristics:

. They have soft bodies.

. Most of them have one or two shells.

. Almost all mollusks are marine animals.

Types:

. Clams

. Mussels

. Octopus/ Octopi

. Squids

. Snails

c. Worms and Leeches: Characteristics:

- Worms are invertebrates with long, soft flexible bodies.

- They don´t have arms or legs.

Types:

·        Earthworm
·        Flatworm
·        Leech
·        Roundworm
·        Tapeworm

d. Echinoderms: Characteristics:

. They are marine animals.

. They get their names because of their spiny skin.

. They usually show a 5 part radial symmetry.

. Most of them are equiped with tube feet.

Types:

. Starfish

. Sand dollar.

. Sea urchins

. Sea cucumber

e. Cnidaria: Characteristics:

Characteristics:

. They are marine animals.

. They show radial symmetry.

. They have stingins cells to help capture food.

Types:

.Jellyfish

.Sea anemonas

f. SpongesCharacteristics:

. They are the simplest animals.
. They are multicellular ( no tissues, muscles, nerves or internal organs)
. Mostly asymmetrical.
